Building the Kingdom of God by assisting those most in needACES: St. Ann’s helps support Ashland Christian Emergency Services with monetary donations, food, clothing, furniture and volunteer labor. Contact: Don Hanky, 798-4905Advocacy for Justice and Peace: Volunteers are needed to coordinate and communicate information about the legislative concerns generated by the Virginia Catholic Conference (serving both Virginia Dioceses), the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, and by our own Diocesan Offices. Contact: Marty Moran, 798-5039Ashland Free Clinic Dinners: We provide simple dinners at St. James the Less for the volunteer clinic staff several times a year. Contact: Kathy Prettyman, 550-1044
Bright Beginnings: St. Ann’s helps the Patrick Henry YMCA provide “back to school” necessities and clothing for disadvantaged students. Contact: Stu Reid, 798-6431
CARITAS: St. Ann’s joins with other congregations in the Ashland/Hanover community to provide week-long shelter and meals for the homeless in the greater Richmond area. Contact: Russ Wisler, 883-0171
CROP Walk: Parishioners join a national network of people united to combat hunger by participating in CROP Hunger Walks. Contact: Bill Ploof, 227-2234
Christmas Angel Giving Tree: At Christmas, volunteers coordinate the collection and distribution of gifts to underprivileged local families. Contacts: Dave and Carol DePuy, 368-0228
Emergency Relief: This program helps people through immediate, but short term, circumstances that are beyond their control. Contact: Marilyn Pollard, 798-5039
ESL (English as a Second Language): Following our Diocese’s ESL Bilingual Ministry, volunteers provide weekly English tutoring sessions for local men and women. Training is provided. Contact: Debbie Pompano, 537-5433
Golden Gift Program: A Ukrop’s sponsored program that provides funds for our Social Outreach programs. Contact: Joanne Bowles,* 883-6496
Helping Hands: St. Ann’s reaches out to parishioners and others in the community who are sick, homebound or bereaved to remember them with special cards of support, gift baskets and other immediate needs. Contacts: Lynda Hamm, 537-5559 Carolyn Peart, 798-9131
Helping Hands for Senior Citizens & Homebound: Volunteers help those in need with light carpentry, home repairs, painting, yard work & other simple jobs around the house and yard. Contact: Stu Reid, 798-6431
Outreach Dinners: St. Ann’s invites local individuals and families to come in and enjoy a Sunday evening dinner in the Parish Hall. Parish Advocate acts on behalf of persons with disabilities to ensure that all are invited to share in the life of the parish. Contact: Debbie Pompano, 537-5433
Prayer Shawl Ministry: A group of knitters/crocheters gather at St. Ann’s to pray and make shawls for the sick, homebound, as well as baby blankets for newly baptized babies and children. Contacts: Marilyn Pollard, 798-8247 or Debbie Novroski, 752-6830
Prison Ministry: Visitation to inmates in local prisons. Contact: Fr. Chris, 798-5039
Project Teddy Bear: Cuddly teddy bears are donated to law enforcement of Hanover and Ashland who give the bears to children who have experienced a trauma. Contact: Jackie Kelly, 752-8351
Red Cross Emergency Shelter: St. Ann’s is an official American Red Cross Emergency Shelter that can be utilized during extreme emergencies in the Ashland and western Hanover area. Contact: Russ Wisler, 883-0171
Scrip Program: Volunteers organize the sale of gift/debit cards for over fifty national stores. The parish receives a percentage of sales made with these cards directly from the participating merchants. Proceeds benefit our Justice and Peace ministries. Stop Hunger Now: Volunteers package meals that are used to feed people in emergency situations outside the continental United States. Contact: Stu Reid, 798-6431
Visiting the Sick and Homebound: Parishioners volunteer to visit the homebound, those in nursing homes, assisted living facilities or hospitals. They extend a hand of friendship to them, offering to listen to their concerns, and if they would like, to read scripture, to pray with them and to bring them Holy Communion. Contact: Fr.
