SACRAMENTS
The seven Sacraments are an integral part of the life of the Church. They form the core of our beliefs, our worship, our prayer and our practices. Here is some information for practical consideration.
The Sacraments of Initiation
Baptism: The rite welcomes the person into membership in the Catholic Church by
sharing in the Divine life. Baptism of infants is scheduled several times during
the year at the liturgies. A required preparation class occurs several weeks prior to
the baptism. To schedule a baptism, please call the parish office.Eucharist: The body and blood, soul and divinity, of Christ, made truly present at Mass, just as it was at the Last Supper. Preparation for the celebration and reception of this Sacrament is offered through our Christian Formation classes and the RCIA process.
Confirmation: A celebration of the completion of baptismal grace, binding the faithful more perfectly to the Church by being sealed with the Gift of the Holy Spirit. Preparation for the celebration and reception of this Sacrament is offered through our Christian Formation classes and the RCIA process.
The Sacraments of Service
Matrimony: This sacrament, reflecting the unity of Christ and the Church, celebrates the
covenant by which a man and a woman commit to form with each other an intimate communion of life and love.
Ceremonies must be scheduled by appointment with the Pastor at least six months before the wedding.Holy Orders/Vocations: By our Baptism, we are all called to serve one another. If you are considering dedicating your life to the service of God in a more formal and permanent way by being ordained a Priest or Deacon, or by becoming a Religious Sister or Brother, contact the Pastor for information and assistance.
The Sacraments of Healing
Reconciliation: The celebration of this Sacrament reflects God’s unceasing love for the
baptized by offering us endless acts of forgiveness. It also addresses the need of imperfect human nature for
continual conversion. Opportunities for celebrating this healing rite are available on Saturday afternoons before
Mass, from 4:00 to 4:30PM, at periodic whole-community Reconciliation Services and at any time by appointment
with the Pastor.Anointing of the Sick: The community gathers as witness to Christ’s compassion toward the sick. Jesus came to heal the whole person, body and soul. He cured infirmities and forgave sins. For the sake of those who are sick, infirm, elderly, undergoing a medical procedure, etc., call the Church right away that we may pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord. (This sacrament is not only for those who are in immediate danger of death. Don’t wait.)
